2022 Rise Book Project presents Top Ten feminist books for young readers

CHICAGO — Rise: A Feminist Book Project for Ages 0-18, a subgroup of the ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table’s Feminist Task Force, announced its Top Ten feminist books for young readers.

Rise: A Feminist Book Project for Ages 0-18 recommends well-written and well-illustrated books with significant feminist content for young readers. Books may be recommended by anyone through the field recommendation process, but books can only be officially nominated for the list by regular Rise committee members.

The bibliography is intended as a recommended reading list for children and teens. It may also be used by interested librarians, teachers, parents, and others who work with youth. The complete list can be found on the official RISE blog at and FTF’s official website at The 2022 Rise: A Feminist Book Project committee selected the following titles, listed in alphabetical order by author’s last name, as their Top Ten:

“Somebody’s Daughter” by Ashley C. Ford 

“Sistersong” by Lucy Holland 

“If I Go Missing” by Brianna Jonnie with Nahanni Shingoose, art by Neal Shannacappo

“Last Night at the Telegraph Club” by Malinda Lo 

“The Big Bath House” by Kyo Maclear and illustrated by Gracey Zhang

“So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix” by Bethany C. Morrow

“Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century” by Alice Wong
