Alex Valencia, Lynn Whittenberger and Meredith Wynn receive ProQuest Award for Innovation

CHICAGO—The Association of Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) Collection Management Section (CMS) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2020 ProQuest Award for Innovation. Alex Valencia, Lynn Whittenberger and Meredith Wynn are recognized for their contributions in creating an innovative discovery solution for highly complex gaming resources. The award recognizes significant and innovated contributions to electronic collections management and development practice. The recipients will receive a $2,000 award generously donated by ProQuest and a citation. The ProQuest Award for Innovation will be presented on Saturday, June 27 during the ALCTS Awards Ceremony at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, IL.

Valencia, Whittenberger and Wynn developed an innovative discovery solution for gaming collections including virtual reality (VR). Most notably, by taking highly complex gaming resources and viewing them from a user-centered perspective they increased the visibility, discoverability and user access to library resources. By cataloging non-traditional items and creating local genre terms and an in-house thesaurus, users can discover the various consoles, platform-specific games and any peripherals related to a console. This group leads other libraries by showing how to manage new types of electronic materials, addresses processes for electronic resources, ensures the appropriate management of resources, and greatly increases the visibility and discovery of these unique resources.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats. ALCTS is a division of the American Library Association.
