Lucas and Warmack Seek 2021-2022 AASL Presidency

CHICAGO – Jennisen Lucas and Phoebe B. Warmack will seek the 2021-2022 AASL presidential term during the 2020 American Library Association (ALA) election. The full slate of AASL candidates can be found at www.ala.org/aasl/elections. 

Jennisen Lucas is the district librarian for the Park County School District #6 in Cody, Wyoming. She is currently serving on the AASL Board of Directors as the Region 9 Director. Her most recent AASL volunteer involvement includes chair of the standards implementation committee, member of the school librarians as leaders position statement task force, and member of the leadership development committee. Along with AASL, Lucas is a member of ALSC and YALSA. 

“AASL is an amazing group of talented school librarians at all levels,” said Lucas. “I have been honored to learn from each of you as I have become more involved in AASL over the past few years. In my roles on various committees and as a regional director, I have come to better understand the overarching concerns and goals of our profession. It is indeed an honor to be selected to run for president-elect, and if elected, I will work with all of you to implement our new strategic plan and to move our organization closer to our goal: ‘Every school librarian is a leader, and every learner has a school librarian.'” 

Phoebe B. Warmack is the director of the William H. White Jr. Library and Reynolds Family Learning Commons at the Woodberry Forest (Va.) School. She is currently serving on the AASL Board of Directors as the representative for the Independent Schools Section. She is also serving as the secretary for the Association of Independent School Librarians’ Board of Directors and as the vice chair of the Grymes Memorial School Board of Trustees. Along with AASL, Warmack is a member of LITA, LLAMA, and YALSA. 

“I am grateful for the opportunity to stand as a candidate for the office of AASL president-elect,” said Warmack. “It has been an honor to serve on the AASL Board for the past two years representing the interests and strengths of our membership. In that time, alongside other initiatives, we have developed a new strategic plan which will better position AASL to shape educational policy and champion the school librarian’s integral role as a leader in teaching and learning. If elected it would be a privilege to advocate for this work and to serve AASL and our members.” 

Ballot mailing for the 2020 ALA election will begin on March 9, 2020, and will run through April 1, 2020. To vote, AASL membership must be current as of January 31, 2020.
