2021 ACRL President’s Program at ALA Annual Virtual Conference

CHICAGO — Join the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) for its President’s Program at the 2021 ALA Annual Virtual Conference. Hosted by ACRL President Jon E. Cawthorne, this program will take place from 2:15 – 3:15 pm CST on Thursday, June 24, 2021, live during the conference.

Titled “Making Change: Organizing for Action While Caring for Each Other,” this program will feature Mariame Kaba, Founder and Director of Project NIA, and Dean Spade, Associate Professor at the Seattle University School of Law, with moderation by Emily Drabinski, Interim Chief Librarian at The Graduate Center, CUNY.

The future we want must be made by us. The commitments we make to ourselves and each other, coupled with the actions we take to enact them in our homes, neighborhoods, communities and our libraries determine what comes next. Many of our institutions engage in equity, diversity and inclusion training. We make reading groups and resource guides. But dismantling racism requires organized efforts that are bigger than individual people and institutions.

Community organizers know how to make change through collective action. In this session, activists, organizers, and intellectuals Dean Spade and Mariame Kaba will join us in conversation about how library workers can use organizing principles to fight against white supremacy and widening inequality through community action and mutual aid.

The 2021 ACRL President’s Program is open to all conference attendees. Please join us at the 2021 ALA Annual Virtual Conference, which includes 19 ACRL-sponsored programs. Register today!
