CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) has announced its final call for registration for LibLearnX, a four-day in-person and virtual event that will bring together thousands of library professionals from throughout the country (both ALA members and non-members) for collaboration, education and giving back. Taking place in person in New Orleans’ Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and surrounding hotel venues January 27-30, LibLearnX will also offer the LLX Digital Experience for virtual attendees.
Day one sessions include internal ALA sessions, including ALA Gives Back, which will benefit nonprofit 826 New Orleans, and a welcome reception that will officially kick-off the event and feature the “I Love My Librarian” Awards, honoring local librarians making a difference in their communities.
LibLearnX will kick off with an opening session from Ibram X. Kendi and Nic Stone, authors of “How to Be a (Young) Antiracist,” before providing ALA members and non-members with more than 100+ educational sessions and breakout experiences offered in four learning formats and nine primary content areas.
Saturday through Monday, the LLX Marketplace will showcase 100 exhibitors offering the newest titles, technology, and services for libraries; creative activation zones, including Ideas Xchange sessions, which will facilitate creative projects and informal peer-to-peer conversations and ShopTalk sessions, which will offer practical knowledge and trends; and the LLX Studio, home to new and established authors, including Cory Doctorow, Clint Smith, Willie Mae Brown, Brian Selznick, co-authors Carole Lindstrom and Steph Littlebird, plus five creatives who will discuss their books and the importance of Black representation in the Inclusivity in Entertainment: Uplifting Black Voices panel session. Closing speaker Ani Di Franco, Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter, political activist, feminist icon and best-selling author will discuss her debut picture book, “The Knowing.”
Other highlights include three ALA Presidential Programs facilitated by ALA President Lessa Kanani’opua Pelayo-Lozada and ALA President-Elect Emily Drabinski; and the Symposium on the Future of Libraries, sponsored by the Center for the Future of Libraries, that will engage participants in a range of experiences and conversations at the intersection of futures thinking and library practice.
Virtual attendees can access LibLearnX through the LLX Digital Experience, which will offer a curated selection of 40+ live and on-demand sessions, including the opening and closing sessions, author speakers on the LLX Studio stage, education, and award celebrations. Registration includes access to this content through March 3, 2023 and registration will end on January 30.
