Comic book artist and writer Kevin Eastman will present at the 2022 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition in Washington, D.C.

CHICAGO – The American Library Association (ALA) today announced that comic book artist, writer, and co-creator of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Kevin Eastman, will present at the 2022 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Washington, D.C., June 23-28, 2022.

Registration is open.

Kevin Eastman co-created, wrote, illustrated, and published “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1” with Peter Laird. The early success of the comic series led to an animated TV series, toys, and movies. Eastman will discuss his latest work, “The Last Ronin,” available July 2022, a collaboration with Laird and Tom Waltz that follows a lone-surviving Turtle in a dystopian New York City. “While exploring a variety of story concepts for the TMNT in the mid-1980s, Peter and I looked thirty years into the future, and wondered what the ‘final’ story might look like for our creations,” Eastman says.  “Would they complete a mission they had been trained for since birth? Thirty-three years later, the time was right to complete that plot thread.”

The health and safety of conference attendees and vendors is our first priority. ALA is carefully tracking all of the latest health and safety guidance for large group gatherings from the CDC, the DC Department of Health, as well as the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, which is working with suppliers in environmental services, health and safety technology upgrades, food and beverage and other services. See the American Library Association Annual Conference 2022 Health Protocols page that will be regularly updated should changes occur.
