Four Projects Receive 2020 AIA/ALA Library Building Award

Sept. 18, 2020 – the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) are awarding four libraries with the 2020 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards for excellence in architectural design. Complete details for each project are available on AIA’s website.

2020 AIA/ALA Library Building Award recipients must demonstrate design achievement, including a sense of place, purpose, ecology, environmental sustainability, and of history. This year’s AIA/ALA Library Building Award recipients, selected by a six-person jury, exemplify these qualities.

2020 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards recipients:

  • Billie Jean King Main Library, Long Beach, California | Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP
  • Capilano Library, Edmonton, AB Canada | Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd. /  Patkau Architects Inc.
  • Independence Library and Apartments, Chicago | John Ronan Architects
  • Northtown Branch Library and Apartments, Chicago | Perkins + Will

The AIA/ALA Library Building Awards are supported by the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA), a former Division of ALA, and now part of a new Division, Core: Leadership Infrastructure Futures.
